New Drug for Anemia : Omontys ... can it help us ???
Hi All !!!
i heard on the news this evening that a new drug Omontys ( just approved by FDA ) can help anemia patients... they mentioned especially those on Kidney Dialysis..... could it also be used by bone marrow failure patients ? MDS ? Just hoping and wondering .... Ann |
It's possible that they'll find a benefit in giving Omontys to bone marrow failure disease patients, but of course we'll have to wait until that's tested.
Peginesatide, trade name Omontys, is an erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA), like Aranesp, Epogen, and Procrit -- drugs that are currently given to some bone marrow failure disease patients. They all work like erythropoietin, our natural protein, to stimulate the bone marrow to make red blood cells. For now, Omontys is approved by the FDA only for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on dialysis. See yesterday's FDA press release. |
Thanks, Neil .....great info ..... !!!
