NY Times article about MDS/AML
I don't know how many of you saw the piece in yesterday's NY Times (3/29/12) "Well" column in the Health section, titled "Life, Interrupted: Facing Cancer in Your 20's", by a young woman, Suleika Jaouad. She has recently been diagnosed with MDS which has transformed to AML. The Times will be running a weekly column by her in "Well" called "Life, Interrupted". Definitely worth reading and following.

Suleika's blog is well written too. To follow her blog from the beginning, start with Good Afternoon, You Have Cancer.

Suleika Jaouad had MDS but by the time she was diagnosed her MDS had already progressed to AML. She has been writing about her treatment and preparation for her stem cell transplant. It's a very good journal. She also has a blog of her own. I recommend it highly. http://secretsofcancerhood.com |
I follow Suleika on twitter and I thought you all might be pleased to hear that she was released from hospital post-transplant yesterday. :)
I know as well as anyone that the journey isn't even halfway over now, but it's great that she's made it past the first hurdle and can recover from home now. |
