LDH levels in mds
hello everyone,
do you have normal level of LDH (lactate deshydrogenase)? what is an elevated levels? IS that dangerous? thank you for repply. béné |
gramous,
The LDH number in and of itself is not dangerous or safe, but it is an indication of what is going on beneath the surfuace. LDH is a measure of systemic inflammation due to tissue turnover or hemolysis. When LDH is high, some systemic event such as cancer, or a heart attack is present. Higher LDH levels are common in MDS patients due to problems with the destruction of red blood cells. Since MDS cells are abnormal, your body tries to destroy them, or they self-destruct which results in elevated LDH. Normal values for LDH vary pretty widely by lab, unlike many other blood tests, so you need to see the reference range on the test to determine how high or low a person is. hope this helps dan |
