Reactive Lymphocytes showing on lab results
Hi All-
Grant had a NASTY virus last week, fever peaked at 104 then dragged on for 5 days. Counts were hammered of course... retic count was ZERO today which was pretty alarming and something called reactive lymphocytes was 40. ANC was 500 today with 100 monocytes. He has been getting daily neupogen since the 7th. Does anyone know... are the reactive lymphocytes (AKA atypical lymphocytes) more a result of the neupogen or the aftermath of the virus? He has never had this much neupogen for this many days before. We've seen a couple reactive lymphocytes show up before but I don't think it's ever been this many. All blood cultures were negative so it was definitely viral. He is back to feeling good since yesterday. Wendy/mom to Grant dx 12/4/98 AA |
Hi Wendy,
Sorry to hear that Grant got hit so hard. From what little I know on this, my take is that it's in response to an antigen....His body is reacting to the virus and the clean-up from it. I'm glad his ANC is coming back up. Marlene |
