MDS and Breast cancer
It is well recognized that breast cancer treatments can be a factor in getting MDS. I am on watch and wait for MDS. This month I was diagnosed with a new breast cancer😂 in the same breast I had cancer 20 years ago.
My oncologist is telling me that I cannot have a second radiation due to previous treatment. He also says that chemo is not an option since I have MDS. Anyone heard to this challenge. To further complicate the situation I have no further lymph nodes to help predict whether cancer has spread. Thoughts? |
Carol,
Given your combination of health conditions, would you consider getting a second opinion from a doctor who is experienced with MDS? For example, you might consider going to Fairview Hospital at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis or the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. |
Good advise
I have used Mayo for second opinion when initially diagnosed. UnMN does a lot of stem cell transfers. They have been doing surveys on MDS patients for a number of years. So either would be good for 2nd opinions. So excellent advise.
I meet with my hematologist here on the 18th. Glad I went with the mastectomy as they found a second tumor in the breast tissue. Thanks for your input. Carol |
