husband with mds

my husband was dx with mds jan.2008, he was dx as raeb1 and needed transfusions and was started on vidaza he had 2 transfusions and became transfusion independant. he also was teated with procrite and neupogen, after 5 rounds of vidaza and 3 bmbs they adopted a wait and watch for 3 months and then red blood cell counts and platlett counts went down so in feb. vidaza was started again. so the journey begins again

Helen,

Good luck to you and your husband.

Responses to Vidaza vary from patient to patient. You'll find posts in these forums by other MDS patients on Vidaza, and perhaps the information may be useful to you.

Please keep us up to date on your husband's progress.

Alas, I have been on a "wait and watch" list for so long I'm started to get bored from "waiting" with this disease. Every day is the same old drag butt crap.:(

we know exactly how you feel, its something everyday it seems our life is the cancer care and research center.but at least its a life
we go back tomorrow for blood work b/c they called and said they didnt like the results of his neutrophil count we never know from day to day how many days of the week we have to go for treatment. if his numbers come back up he starts vidaza again on 23rd. but hey he hasnt needed a transfusion since last march so thats a blessing. we have been married almost 48 years our children are planning a big 50th for us so he had better behave himself until then lol
