Dear Ziad,
As long as your father's platelets increase (very much really) after the platelet txs he is not refractory.

There are 2 drugs that can increase platelets - Promacta (Revolade in Europe) and Nplate. None of them is approved for MDS but MDS patients can get them off record. I don't know if this is possible in your country. Nplate can give increased blast cells and we don't know if Promacta has this adverse effect.

Many MDS patients are receiving blood txs and platelet txs as outpatients.
