AAMAC Webinar - Self-Compassion for Caregivers

Self-Compassion for Caregivers

Date: November 22, 2022

Time: 2 pm (Eastern Time (ET))

Speaker: Patricia Williams

You may wonder why this webinar focuses on self-compassion?
Research has shown that caregivers are often at risk for stress, burnout, depression, and other health challenges. We also know that the demanding role of caregiver can negatively impact our sense of wellbeing and quality of life.

So why self-compassion? The answer is that self-compassion addresses the core issues that challenge caregivers, and it does this through cultivating inner resources to cope with the many challenges caregivers face. In this webinar we will look briefly at what self-compassion is and the research that supports it. We will also learn simple but effective practices that can be used even while you are actively providing care to someone else! Note that this is in contrast to many self-care practices that are done outside of the caregiving role. Self-compassion is not a cure-all, but it is a powerful process for developing inner resources to cope with the personal demands of being a caregiver, while reducing the risk of burnout and protecting wellbeing.
